In starting my third term as a County Supervisor, I have come to realize that there are still more things I need to learn to become a better leader as we make decisions that improve the quality of life of the residents that will lead to a better community. I have been very fortunate that that I have been given the opportunity to serve on my local school board for the past 18 years; serving as President of Arizona Schools Boards Association in 1999 as well as Chairman of the Pacific Region of the National School Boards Association that same year. There is no greater calling than making decisions that affect children but also impact our future. I have also served as the Public Works Director for the City of Nogales. Working as an appointed department head I had a different set of challenges ranging from personnel to budgets plus trying to meet the needs of our citizens along with the demands of the elected officials. This year I had the privilege and honor of serving as the President of the US Border Counties Coalition, which represents the 24 US counties along the southern border with Mexico.
I made it a point to finish my education and received my AA degree from Cochise College with honors in 2006 and in 2008 I earned my Public Manager Certificate from Arizona State University.
As a life long resident of Nogales and Santa Cruz County my wife Lupita and we have been married for 30 years and are the proud parents of 2 children (a young man and young lady) living in Phoenix Arizona who are furthering their education and working to become productive members of our society.
