Juvenile Detention Services Division (JDSD)
JDSD - The division is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of those juveniles (persons between the ages of 8 and 18) who require secure care services (i.e., placement in a juvenile detention center). The facility has 32 beds but an operational capacity of 16. Detention officers follow daily activity schedules to ensure juveniles can access the programming activities which are available. The activities include, but are not limited to, programming which center around education (a minimum of four hours a day), exercise, recreation, arts and crafts, etc. In addition, there is a behavior management system in place which is designed to provide juveniles with more and more privileges when they follow the rules and are well behaved during their stay. Juveniles are able to receive visits from their parents, attorneys, counselors, etc. Furthermore, juveniles can make telephone calls and write letters to loved ones.
